The first things to mention about reasons for forgetfulness are stress and anxiety. The both home and career problems cause people to experience forgetfulness which will affect them in a negative way in a short time later.

Apart from that, sleeplessness is also a reason for forgetfulness. The following nights spent without sleeping causes brain not to get rest which also causes forgetfulness. Depression, one of the most important illnesses of our age, also causes forgetfulness. Being in a constant miserable mood will affect the life of the person and cause him/her to forget some simple things that s/he needs to remember.

The anodynes and antidepressants used for depression also cause forgetfulness in constant usage. Besides, we know that blood pressure medicines evoke forgetfulness as well. Constant usage of that kind of medicines causes confusion and inattentiveness. And then forgetfulness evokes.

Another factor for forgetfulness is alcohol. When alcohol is consumed, people do not remember anything for a short time. They can forget what they did or experienced.

Poor thyroid gland functionality is causes forgetfulness. Thyroid gland affects many organs. One of the organs it affects is brain. Poor thyroid gland functionality affects brain functions and causes forgetfulness.

If forgetfulness occurs because of the reasons we listed above, it does mean that it is not a sign of a serious illness. If you think that your forgetfulness is caused by the medicine that you use, you can change or give up using them seeing your doctor. Out of that subject, forgetfulness can be a sign of serious illnesses. It is an important sign for Alzheimer and senility.

But patient is supposed to show some other signs for these illnesses to be diagnosed. If these signs are observed along with the others, the forgetfulness should be considered seriously.

  • When the best known phone number is forgot.
  • When the names of acquaintances are began to be forgotten. 
  • When the same question is asked again and again.
  • When got lost on the way commonly used.
  • When the same event told again.
  • When the daily needs started not to be able to meet,  forgetfulness is a situation to take seriously and a doctor should immediately be seen.
